Easy to learn. Hard to keep quiet.

The phone keeps time. You make the evening.

  1. 1

    Get your people together.

Verify your email and add at least two players. Choose Clean or Unfiltered and a mode, or start with The Big Mix.

  2. 2

    Pass the phone.

The game tells you who reads. That person reads the card aloud so everyone knows what’s happening.

  3. 3

    Follow the card.

Start the clock. In 3 Rounds, the clue-giver keeps the answers hidden from everyone guessing. For the other challenges, perform aloud together.

  4. 4

    Record the result.

The card’s rule decides the drink. Record votes where needed; the game gives each loser one penalty point. Fewer points is better.

Same fire. Three kinds of chaos.

Guess together, act a part or give the worst advice with the greatest confidence. Your people make the game.

Friends laugh around the fire as the shared phone passes to the next player

3 Rounds

Five clues. Thirty seconds. Get at least three right to escape a drink. First describe freely, then use one word, then act with movements and sound effects.

Everyone gets one turn under each rule before the game moves on automatically. Every turn has fresh clues; nothing repeats in the same game. After three rounds, the fewest penalty points wins.

30seconds
A player reads from the phone as the group laughs and a friend covers his face in mock shame

Braai Roasts

Make someone crack in 25 seconds, perform a 20-second voice note or point together in the Braai Court. Each format has a clear outcome.

Roadblock penalises whoever laughs, or the performer if the target holds out. WhatsApp Drama needs an audience majority; the Braai Court penalises everyone tied for the most votes. Each loss is one point.

5–25seconds
One player gives confident advice as the caller and other friends listen beside the braai

The Advice Line

One ridiculous problem. One completely unqualified expert. Twenty seconds of terrible advice, delivered with absolute confidence.

The caller reads the problem as their own. The expert invents the advice. If the caller smiles or laughs, the caller drinks; otherwise the expert drinks. Clean uses The Advice Line; Unfiltered uses The Shit Advice Line.

20seconds

The rules, without the guesswork.

Choose Clean or Unfiltered before starting. Unfiltered allows swearing and rude humour and may include clean shared content. Every drink is one penalty point; fewer is better. Anyone may decline a card before its timer or vote starts, without a penalty.

3 Rounds

  • One player gives clues; everyone else guesses. Keep the screen hidden. You have 30 seconds for all five answers together. A recognisable answer counts.
  • Talk freely: no part of the answer, translation, spelling or first letter. One word: one clue word per answer, which you may repeat; no extra words or gestures. Charades: movements and sound effects, with no spoken words or spelling.
  • Tap GOT IT for a correct answer or SKIP. An illegal clue counts as a skip. Skips and wrong guesses have no extra penalty; a skipped clue does not return.
  • Three to five correct: safe. Zero to two correct: only the clue-giver gets one penalty point. The people guessing receive no penalty for that turn.
  • Everyone gets one turn under each rule. The game changes the rule automatically. Clues suit the round and content setting and never repeat in the same game, even after switching language.
  • On its own, the game ends after everyone’s third turn; the fewest penalty points wins, with shared wins for ties. In The Big Mix, only 3 Rounds turns count toward its round progression.

Braai Roasts

  • Roadblock: the performer has 25 seconds to make the target smile or laugh. The target drinks as soon as they crack; otherwise the performer drinks. The target faces the performer and may respond in character. No touching; other players do not help.
  • WhatsApp Drama: perform an imaginary voice note within 20 seconds. Nothing is recorded or sent. Everyone except the performer votes simultaneously on whether it made them laugh.
  • The performer is safe only if more than half the audience votes positively. A tie or fewer means one penalty point. With two players, the single audience member decides.
  • Braai Court: think for five seconds, count 3–2–1 and point together. Everyone votes and self-votes are allowed. Most votes means one penalty point; everyone tied for most also gets one. No runoff or changed votes after the reveal.
  • Every loss is exactly one penalty point. Roles rotate fairly. Anyone may request a replacement card before the timer or vote starts, without a penalty. These rules also apply in The Big Mix.

The Advice Line

  • The caller reads the ridiculous problem as their own; the expert has 20 seconds to invent terrible advice with complete confidence. There are no prescribed answers or secret words.
  • If the caller smiles or laughs within 20 seconds, the caller gets one penalty point. If the caller keeps a straight face, the expert gets one. Only the caller’s reaction counts.
  • With two players, you are the entire cast. With more people, the others watch without deciding the result. Caller and expert roles rotate between turns.
  • Clean uses The Advice Line; Unfiltered uses The Shit Advice Line. The rules and twenty seconds stay the same.

Questions & answers

Before someone grabs the tongs.

The quick answers, so you can get straight to playing.

How many people can play?

Two to sixteen people can play. All three game modes work with two. Add latecomers in the players panel.

Does everyone need a phone?

No. You share one device and pass it around. The game also adapts to tablets, laptops and desktop screens.

What happens after the free turns?

The first three turns are free. After that, unlock the base game for a once-off R29 payment through Paystack.

Do we have to drink alcohol?

Not at all. Use water, a soft drink or a harmless penalty everyone agrees on beforehand. Nobody has to drink or play a card they’re uncomfortable with.

Are the cards in English too?

Yes. Choose Afrikaans or English for the website, game, cards and announcer. The same South African voice brings both languages to life.

How do I restore a purchase?

Sign in with the email address you used to buy the game. Verify the code and your access comes with you.
